No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for accelerated approval, what the process entails, and how underwriting proceeds without it.

Most major carriers provide accelerated underwriting—for applicants in defined age brackets, applying for coverage below specified thresholds, and whose health responses fit standard ranges, the medical exam is waived.

What it changes

No exam doesn't mean no underwriting—your answers get checked, and approval is contingent on that investigation.

Who tends to qualify

Applicants generally under age 60, requesting coverage below the carrier's accelerated threshold, and giving answers within defined ranges are often exempt from an exam.

If an exam is required, expect a 20- to 30-minute visit from a paramedic at your chosen location. Usually it's just vital signs—height, weight, pulse, blood pressure—with no blood draws or needles.
